Freezing weather exposes global warming swindle

with 53 comments

The following press release comes from the Citizens Electoral Council of Australia. Do you think they are on the mark or not?

Recent freezing conditions throughout much of the world have sent Al Gore and his associate fraudsters into a massive panic. The “global warming” swindle was supposed to con us into higher energy prices and for us to willingly “love our poverty,” while shutting down our farmers and manufacturers. While impoverishing the majority, a small group of carbon traders, fund managers and scientists willing to play the game have made a fortune. The mainstream media blackout of the majority of scientists not buying into this swindle has failed to fool thinking citizens. And now, given the recent global cooling, anyone insisting that we’re causing a global warming disaster, is starting to look as silly those in the Flat Earth Society.

Satellites have obtained the most reliable temperature record of the earth’s atmosphere since they commenced measurements in December 1978. And in the past twelve months, the planet has experienced an overall temperature drop of a very significant 0.63 degrees Celsius. In January, average global temperatures slipped to 0.044°C below the long-term (1979-98) average. So what has this meant in the real world? Let us look at the following:

  • China is now battling its coldest winter in 100 years. The China Meteorological Administration said the weather was the coldest in 100 years in central Hubei and Hunan provinces, going by the total number of consecutive days of average temperature less than 1 degree Celsius. In Guangzhou—a city in the south—about 800,000 people remained stranded, unable to take either bus or train. A million police and troops were dispatched to help keep roadways open as thousands of vehicles became stranded in the snow and ice. Freezing weather has killed scores of people
  • Tajikistan has had its coldest winter in at least 50 years, with temperatures dropping to -22 degrees Celsius in the capital, Dushanbe. Electricity is now only available for just 10 hours a day. Heavy snowfall and frozen rivers have led to damage of water and hydroelectric supply systems. Mountainous villages are in isolation, and severe food shortages are leading to starvation.
  • In one of the worst cold snaps to have ever struck Iran, the nation has suffered turmoil with people freezing to death in their cars, numerous towns have suffered cuts in gas supplies, and all schools and government offices were forced to close in the capital, Tehran. The dunes of the Kavir-e Lut desert in southwestern Iran were covered in a dusting of snow for the first time in living memory. The official IRNA news agency reported, “The villages elders said they had never seen or heard about snow in those areas.” The lowest temperature overnight was minus 24 degrees Celsius in Shahre Kord in western Iran.
  • Mumbai, India, experienced its coldest day in 46 years when the temperature dropped to 8.5 degrees Celsius.

The case of China shows reality is catching up on the IPCC lies. In May of 2007, researchers Stephen McIntyre and Douglas Keenan exposed the IPCC to be using fraudulent historical temperature records. They showed Phil Jones, Director of the Climate Research Unit at the University of East Anglia, U.K., and co-author Wei-Chyung Wang, Professor at the State University of New York in Albany, U.S.A, had knowingly falsified data from the 84 Chinese temperature stations used in their study.

  1. The polar caps are melting. Only idiots do not believe global warming is real anymore.

  2. … and we have just had the hottest January on record and there were no spring frosts here in the King Valley. Still, there are those around here that will not accept global warming.

Of course, you realise we will never stop it – we can only learn to live with it. They say Auistralian coal exports to China will eventually account for one third of that country’s emissions and you can bet the survival of the Australian economy will be more important than abating global warming. I am cynical enough to analyse the following quote from the CEC press release.

The “global warming” swindle was supposed to con us into higher energy prices and for us to willingly “love our poverty,” while shutting down our farmers and manufacturers. While impoverishing the majority, a small group of carbon traders, fund managers and scientists willing to play the game have made a fortune.

We are already paying more for petrol, food and electricity – permanently.

  3. neath: I think you should look at the official polar cap data:
http://arctic.atmos.uiuc.edu/cryosphere/ its increasing and thickening at a phenomenal rate and will likely be above normal for the next 2-3 months (bet)

  4. This is why the scientific community changed the terminology from global warming to climate change.
Yes, global warming is real. However, climate is such a complex thing that this does not mean that every region in the world will be warmer. It is quite possible that some will be colder (as ‘The Day After Tomorrow’ demonstrated).
Many areas of the world – Britain, for example – are far warmer than they should be given their latitude. This is because ocean currents from the equator draw warm water to them, resulting in a balmier climate.
It is quite possible that the warming of the globe overall could disrupt these warm currents, making these countries colder.
What climate change scientist have predicted, however, is that minor changes in climate will create more severe and more frequent extreme weather events, and that these events will tend to follow on one another – I think we have had a few examples of this happening locally over the last few years and it is borne out by insurance claims as well (insurance companies were one of the first business operations to pick up on global warming because of this, and some of the most active in advocating action).

  5. Did you ever wonder why most of the ancient civilizations worshiped the SUN? It was for good reason they realized that it was the SUN that affected weather conditions on earth more than anything else. When the SUN goes into it’s warming up cycle we warm up then it goes into it’s cooling down cycle we cool down and if it ever went OUT it’s all over and it’s about -400 degrees.

    Ron

    14 February 2008 at 8:41 pm

  6. Yes Ron, they realised that the sun was causing climate change. They probably stopped worshipping the sun when the ice age came and they froze their butts off.

  7. Well Greg you better stock up on the wool blanket’s as an ice age comes around about every 10000 years and we are slowly coming into one.

  8. Commom sense tells us to stop polluting the atmosphere as much as we do. If it’s not causing global warming climate change then it sure as hell isn’t doing our health any good. I saw footage of the Olympic stadium in Beijing on TV tonight, absolutely fogged with industrial pollution. I suppose they’ll have the big (Australian made) wind farms strategically placed in time to blow the smoke away for the opening. I think that’s the only reason they’re investing in them.

  9. the CEC are an absolute pack of wallies, the jury is already in, the debate is over climate change is real.
The only debate remaining is what to do about it, how best to fix it, how we can stop contributing to it etc. etc.
This kind of “it’s a cold day today so that proves global warming is fake” rubbish is absolute caveman stuff it really is.

  10. You are correct krypto climate change is real we have Summer,Autumn,Winter and spring and this has been happening for millions of years and the only reason some washed up politician and the rest of his brain washed sheep are trying to brain wash us is because there is a lot of MONEY to be made from it.

    Ron

    15 February 2008 at 6:39 pm

  11. you’re an idiot Ron you really are.
Over 95% of the independant scientific community are agreed that climate change is real but oh no, you know better huh?
Besides being a dufus on the internet, perhaps you’d like to disclose your qualifications on this issue?
If you are going to negate virtually every single peer reviewed source within the scientific community you’d better have a better source than “some guy down the pub reckons…”
    Idiot.

  16. perhaps you have heard of a nome de plume? they are quite common on this new fangled inter-ma-whoozey.
I can guarantee that even if I live to be 100, I will turn out to be nothing like you Ron.
In any rate your age has less to do with your foolishness than your inability to accept factual evidence.
There are plenty of older people who are quite progressive in their outlook, you just happen to be more representative of the “silly old coot” stereotype.

    Ron

    25 February 2008 at 10:58 am

  18. like I said, your age is less a factor in your foolishness than your inability to accept factual evidence.
Incidentally it’s not a reflection on the person concerned when they take false information given at face value, it’s a reflection on the person giving the false information.
It’s called lying, and in most cases it doesn’t bode well for the character of the person who is doing it.
    In this case you.
Perhaps you’d do well to refrain from mocking other people’s education and go and aquire some of your own.

    25 February 2008 at 12:39 pm

  19. Gee Greg, you might be a “senior citizen” (your words) but you’re sure as hell appealing to the young people for some reason. First there was 15 y.o. Dylan and now there’s 19 y.o. Ron.

I’ve expressed my scepticism on Dylan’s age already but that was based solely on his choice of words, phrases and the way he connected them. The name Dylan though is very 15 y.o. I mean, no kids were being called that in the 80s or earlier were they?

“Ron” also writes like someone with a bit more experience than a 19 y.o. but there are other, er, “giveaways”. Firstly, the views he espouses are more common among, well, “older folk”. You see, if Ron’s only 19 then he’s the first teenager I’ve ever heard deny that climate change is real. It’s almost a doctrine these days among youth that the globe is warming up and we’re in deep s…

BUT, and this is the one that really gets me, I would estimate that the last person on this earth to be named RONALD by his parents, was born back in the 1950s. It’s one of those names that just fell out of fashion and stayed that way. Not even President Ronald Reagan could inspire its return to popularity among baby makers.

OK, maybe Ron is not Ron’s real name …. but why the hell would a 19 y.o. choose Ron as a pseudonym, and would he have ever heard of that name anyway? It’s like, “Yeah, I’m going to pick a real cool alias, dude, I think I’ll call myself RON !

Fess up Ron, you’re over 50 you “old” man.

  20. Great detective work raydixon i am actually in my late 50s but i could not help myself with having a bit of fun with Krypto and as far as climate-change and global-warming goes it all sounds a bit like henny-penny and the king has no clothes syndrome. I have been a weather watcher since i was a teenager and have had an interest in it every since i have 3 computers networked with one set up with just about every weather website that is worth looking at and after living thru a hell of a lot of weather changes over the years and what we see today is what we have seen in the past.

    Ron

    26 February 2008 at 11:51 am

  21. Thanks for owning up Ron. I have been contemplating removing the off-topic posts between you and Krypto. Now that I have forgiven you, I want to take issue with you.

I’m 65 and I haven’t heard of floods in Queensland being sustained for two months. Come to think of it, I had never heard of icebergs floating around off New Zealand before. You might be interested to know that the grapes in the King Valley vineyards have been harvested more than a month early for the last two years and the traditional spring frosts did not occur this year. I keep a track on natural disasters on this blog through Relief Web and find the number of floods, earthquakes and fires increases every year.

These are just a few of the climatic events that come to mind and, I’m sure you’re right when you say a hell of a lot of weather changes over the years and what we see today is what we have seen in the past.

But can you show me Ron, a similar sequence of events that have occurred in the past in a similar time period? (like 12 months).

As I see it, the climate is changing but I also question the hype about it all. My cynical approach makes me wonder if the real problem is that the world is running out of natural resources (e.g. peak oil) with the ever growing population increase.

The Energy Bulletin talks about ‘peak copper’. ‘peak uranium’ and a host of other peak moments.

My question is whether or not the worlds leaders are capitalising on the easily accepted ‘climate change’ concept to tax the masses into self imposed lifestyle modification with a view to maintaining the supply of natural resources into the future.

    Greg Naylor

    26 February 2008 at 6:19 pm

    • Ever think that an increase in natural disaster frequencies may be a sign of the end times?

      Luke 21:25-26
“There will be signs in the sun, moon and starts. On earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea. Men will faint from terror, apprehensive of what is coming on the world, for the heavenly bodies will be shaken.”

  22. Got ya Ron! Thanks for ‘fessing up. As for global warming climate change (we must be politically correct!), I’m in the middle on the issue. Yes, some strange things are going on, as Greg points out. Eg: The poplars out the front of our place have changed colour already and today the leaves started falling, and it’s still summer. But, are we just seeing an ‘adjustment’ back to more normal weather patterns following a decade or so of climatic weirdness caused by who knows what?

I’m not absolutely convinced the changes are man-made, although I agree we are over-polluting the air. Yes, the ice caps are melting it seems but once upon a time they covered about half the world so I guess retraction of the polar caps could be an ongoing thing – ever notice how an ice block melts faster when it’s smaller? Something about a large mass retaining the cold temperature better than a smaller one.

I’m “on the fence” a bit because I reckon most popular theories end up being over-stated or duds. It’s a bit like the theory that if you keep all your skin covered from the sun you won’t get a melanoma when in fact those who get a ‘normal’ sun exposure are better adjusted and less vulnerable to skin cancer – as well as being a lot healthier (I love a good tan!)

  23. Greg i lived and worked thru the sydney and nyngan floods nearly 18 years ago and i can also remember the floods we had in the early 1970s and the drought of the mid 1960s and now we are coming out of a 10 year drought and we are experiencing heavy rain and flooding again these events seem to coincide with the warming up and cooling down cycle of the SUN think about it and especially in a flat country like Australia. And as for the ice caps melting i think ice starts to melt at O degrees C and at there warmest the North and South poles get to about -15 degrees C think about that one and i believe the reason that so many young people are getting sucked into this global warming hysteria is because these events only seem to come around about every 20 years and thats the reason most older people don’t believe all the hype over global warming as they have seen it all before.

  24. perhaps you might like to check the water levels of the murray darling basin Ron (just as an example), you’ll see the past seven years are the driest on record (ie the water level has been at it’s lowest ebb since records have been kept, a span oF over a century and a half I believe).

This kind of “I’m old so I know all” anecdotal hogwash simply doesn’t stand up to the avalanche of quantifiable scientific data which demonstrates unequivocally that weather patterns are changing significantly and the most likely cause of that is human impact on the natural environment.

  25. To the alburywodongaonlinechronicle i did not say i know all it’s just my opinion of what i have seen and observed over my life time so far. And to your problem in the murray-darling basin i think i would look up river and the huge amount of WATER that is wasted on Cotton farming.

    Ron

    7 March 2008 at 12:06 pm

  26. cotton actually uses less water than your average food crop, I agree that it’s not the best textile crop we could be growing but to blame the woes of the Murray Darling basin wholely on cotton is a red herring.
In fact red herrings seem to be your stock in trade.
Nothing wrong with that of course but you are mudying the water on an issue which is a little too important to clown around with.
Your method of information gathering smacks of, dare I say, slack-jawed-yokel ignorance.
    Try giving a little more credence to the overwhelming weight of peer-reviewed scientific data to suggest that;
1 climate change is real, AND
2 human impact on the environment is the most likely cause of that change rather than your own “it’s cold today so climate change isn’t real” hokum.

  27. To the alburywodongaonline you seem to have an attitude problem when it comes to other peoples opinion on the climate. You are correct in regards to climate change it’s been changing up and down for millions of years and human impact on it is sweet FA a single volcano eruption will do more to the climate than humans would do in 100 years.

    Ron

    12 March 2008 at 12:40 am

  31. Ron I have a “problem” with ignorant people like you muddying the water on important issues.
You may be too ignorant/ mean spirited/ selfish/ delusional to accept that climate change is reality, thankfully most people are a little less obtuse than yourself.
Why don’t you fade away into obscurity along with Dana Vale and the rest of the right wing climate sceptics?

    alburywodongaonline

    12 March 2008 at 1:01 am

  32. I’m certainly not “right-wing” AWOL but I maintain a healthy scepticism about the CAUSES of climate change. I don’t doubt we’re seeing something happen but I’m yet to be convinced it’s man-made or indeed that it’s not part of the normal cycle of things.

As I’ve said many times though, cutting back on emissions is obviously a worthwhile objective in any case, just so we have purer air if for no other reason. But I think there’s a lot of sheep-mentality going on among a large section of the population now predicting “the end of the world as we know it” unless we dramatically change our practices.

Of course we need to be “cleaner & greener” but we might be over-reacting and diverting attention away from more immediate and tangible solutions like planting trees, which has multiple benefits. There’s something that doesn’t seem quite right to me about putting so much “energy” and money into trying to reverse nature (or slow it down) instead of focusing on more positive actions to restore the balances of nature we have tinkered with.

Maybe it’s all a “conspiracy” by the energy producers to force us to pay more for our energy needs under the pretext that we need to reduce demand! It wouldn’t be the first time we were told “the big lie”. Look at the oil “crisis” of the 70s – umm, there’s still plenty of it 35 years later.

    raydixon

  33. Yes and what happened to the OZONE layer scare.

    Ron

    12 March 2008 at 12:08 pm

  34. Ray, with all due respect, I’m not a scientist and nor are you.
When there is such an enormous number of the scientific community all saying the same thing it is foolish not to listen.
It’s a bit like going to a doctor, getting a medical diagnosis, accusing the doctor of quackery, shouting “what would you know” and walking out only to get the same diagnosis on a second opinion and repeating the same reaction, again on a third, and fourth and so on. It is the definition of ignorance.

Climate sceptics to me endorse a carte blanche to pollute, it’s that simple.
An attitude of “well humans don’t have an effect on the environment anyway” all too easily leads to one of “let’s chop down every tree, shoot every animal, poison every waterway and who cares what we pump into the atmosphere?”. By that logic, why not?

If the overwhelming majority of people who specialise in these things (brighter and more learned people than any on here, myself included) are all saying the same thing it is foolish not to take it on board.
Maybe in ten years they will all be saying something different, who knows? If they are, the same applies.

Incidentally, since the 1970’s we have seen smaller cars, more fuel efficient engine systems, catalytic cracking, all kinds of things to make the finite resources we have go further.
It’s not a lie to say that fossil fuels are finite and eventually we will run out.
Also if there was “plenty” of oil, why would we be putting soldiers into the oil-fields? and why would crude oil have peaked at a new record price this week?

    alburywodongaonline

    12 March 2008 at 12:23 pm

  35. Ron, you further demonstrate your ignorance with each new comment, since the 1980’s we have stopped using ozone depleting chemicals as propellants, in packaging etc.
Ozone is made naturally by electrical activity in the atmosphere like lightning and the auroras borealis/ australis.
A change in human behaviour has enabled nature to start to repair itself.http://www.atm.ch.cam.ac.uk/tour/

You sound like the kind of person who would smoke their whole life, in enclosed spaces around children and babies and protest “lung cancer is a scam” if you were ever challenged on it.
Probably citing some archaic medical text from the 1930’s when cigarette smoking was advised as a tonic for “nerves”.

    alburywodongaonline

    12 March 2008 at 12:37 pm

  36. Oh yeah AWOL, we can live in fear all our lives but when you and I are gone, will all this matter? I doubt it will and those left will still be arguing about, “we should do this and we should do that”.

As for the “enormous number of the scientific community all saying the same thing” I AM listening, but what I’m hearing is not definitive, not yet. Life will go on though.

Again, I qualify all this by saying that it is just common sense not to pollute and to keep our environment & air as clean as possible. But I’m sceptical about doomsayers.

    raydixon

    12 March 2008 at 9:45 pm

  37. For your information AWOL i had a few fags when i was about 14 and it took me one packet to relies what a total waste of money and just remember to stock up on the wool blankets as you will need them this winter brrrrrrrr.

    Ron

    13 March 2008 at 12:47 am

  38. Ray I hardly think I’m a doomsayer, I just acknowledge that there is an enormous weight of evidence to suggest climate change is real and that human activity has most likely contributed to it.
I agree it is “common sense” not to polute, unfortunately there are few things so rare as common sense.
Then you have the Rons of this world who appear completely unable to distinguish between climate change and seasonal variance.
Yes it is dangerous to simply accept information without questioning it, but in terms of climate change it is a high level scientific debate, there’s no-one on this thread even remotely qualified to interperet global climatic trends.
I choose to accept the findings of the world’s top minds on this subject.
People like Ron seem to think they know better.
Delusion I think is the apt descriptive term for that.

  39. That movie “The Day after tomorrow” was on TV recently. I bet there are a lot of people out there who believed it to be an accurate forecast of the future. If it’s true though, Australia looks safe and real estate prices will go ballistic, especially in Tasmania where a 3 BR BV will sell for about $50 million, as everyone from the northern hemisphere heads “down under”. See, I knew there’d be a positive outcome to all this.

I’m not hysterical, don’t take a sensationalist view at all, but the weight of current evidence suggests climate change is real, the consequences for future generations could be dire. Burying one’s head in the sand is unlikely to alter this fact.

  49. I’ve just been reading through these comments and all you global warming suckers out there don’t seem to understand one very important thing…you keep repeating that most scientists agree that man has contributed to climate change but this is simply NOT TRUE. Find out the facts before you ramble on repeating what the media is telling you (and I’m a journalist so that must mean something)!. The fact is, it is the environmental scientists which are telling you this not true scientists who go on fact not theory. Environmental science is based on theory. Yes, the majority of environmental scientists are telling us that man has caused climate change but the majority of ‘real’ scientists and meteorologists who make their decisions based on fact disagree. Before you jump up and down with a ‘no this is not true’ attitude because the ABC told you something different, do some research… please???? People are so naive, I just can’t get over it!

  50. I still maintain that global warming/climate change is being used by those with influence manipulating the phenomenon to advance their own causes.

I cannot understand the argument as to whether it is caused by man or not because it does not affect the outcome. The concept of carbon trading does not influence the amount of carbon released, it simply screws the masses to allow the traders to make more money.

Managing one’s carbon footprint is valid in that it helps prevent wasting our finite sources of energy. Anything that supports sustainability of our resources must be worthwhile. Let the debate continue …

  51. Here is the real scoop on Global warming.

    Is it really happening?

Not in Chicago, its actually freezing.

    Globally yes it is happening.

Is it caused by Humans or cow farts as the Democratic climate experts contend?

    NO.

Is it caused by Soccer Moms in their SUV’s?

    NO.

Is it caused by Greenhouse gasses?

    NOT A CHANCE!

So what’s all this climate warming stuff being chanted by the climate weird Os!

They all need a “Job and money” just like snake oil salesmen!

Why are the Democrats going nuts with all the climate warming chanting and the republicans going Ho Hum!

    Answer;

You can sell a lie for more money than the truth and there are plenty of fools around with money!

    Here are some of the things that are really causing climate warming;

The first and foremost is the fact that the frozen poles was a hangover from the ice age and warming is just returning to normal.

The second reason is the Sun is actually in the dying stages and the corona enlarges during this phase.

This is evidenced by the fact that the solar winds are many times stronger than ever before in history.

All the other planets in our solar system are warming also even without any republicans there!

These Botox bimbos and bearded communist professor wanna bees are suffering from narcissistic personality disorder and just have to blame everything on others.

They want you to become dependant upon their point of view thus giving them an ego boost and enabling them to control your tiny minds!

This of course will make you pliable when you get the climate taxes!

No I am not kidding! You just wait & listen!

Don’t worry about the sun dying as you will not be around to see it as this takes thousands of years!

Next thing we will see is strange taxes like ozone area impact fees/Global warming impact fees/state & federal climate research tax/Human interaction reduction tax/Acorn research tax/and the list goes on!

How do you like your change so far?

  52. Hey , Happy Fool’s Day!!!

A prisioner in jail received a letter from his wife:
“I have decided to plant some lettuce in the back garden. When is the best time to plant them?”
The prisioner, knowing that the prison guards read all the mail, replied in a letter:
“Dear Wife, whatever you do, DO NOT touch the back garden! That is where I hid all the gold.”
A week or so later, he received another letter from his wife:
“You wouldn’t believe what happened. Some men came with shovels to the house, and dug up the whole back garden.”
    The prisoner wrote another letter:
“Dear wife, NOW is the best time to plant the lettuce!”

    Happy April Fool’s Day!
