Whitfield’s Future Improvements
It was on Sunday 20 July 2008, a very cold, wet, blustery day, when approximately 35 residents attended a Whitfield community meeting held at the Whitfield Recreation Reserve.
The aims of this community meeting, organised and facilitated by the Rural City of Wangaratta, were to identify and prioritise 10 key long-term changes/improvements needed to be undertaken in and around Whitfield and to develop a Community Plan reflecting these future changes and required improvements.
On that cold wet winters day the following projects for long term change were identified as priorities:
- Whitfield Recreation Reserve Hall upgrade
- Youth Activities
- Playground
- Community Centre, Health and Children
- Vision and community plan for the King Valley
- Tractor and slasher
- Transport timetables and promotion
- Infrastructure and Riverside linear access trail
- Road seal – Myrrhee-Whitfield Road
- Rail Trail
Since 20 July 2008, a group of volunteers, now known as the Whitfield Community Planning Group, is meeting on a regular basis at the Whitfield General Store to work out how to progress each of these projects.
Given this planning needs to slot into the Rural City of Wangaratta 2030 Community Vision much evidence is needed to support the required future changes, so if asked for your opinion either verbally or in a survey, have your say, let us know what you think.
If you want to know more about any of the projects or provide constructive advice, have a chat with any of the group members listed below.

The planning group has it’s own website called Whitfield Our Town. If you log on, you will see a website set up for our community members to be informed and to give us heaps of feedback. This is a wonderful tool for us to be able to communicate with and to be communicated with. Fantastic!!!!
These is so much happening it’s hard to keep with, today Chris Hazell reported on delivering the Community notices to the following :
The Whitfield Pub – She says “what about the roundabout it’s one of the first things people see when entering WHITFIELD and it’s not a good look” – she has a point.
Three Ways Cafe – She says “Monthly calendar is underway to promote what goes on” – excellent idea I said.
Whitfield Garage – “This is great, is there a playground on the list,” – yep I said, “this is wonderful, I have two small children and one on the way and Whitfield is our future”.
Whitfield General Store – He says, “don’t forget about my idea re the bike track up Whitty lane”.
Cheshunt General Store – She says, “I’m working with Margaret on the riverside access trail”.
I’ll fill in the detail at the next meeting however, it’s rather exciting to listen to building enthusiasm.
St. Kilda Pub criticised for asking women to remove their underwear … Read full story here
When I was a young bloke, it didn’t take a $50 drink voucher to get a girl to get her gear off. Back then, pubs were about selling beer before 6.00 pm closing and women were relegated to the ‘ladies lounge’. But then again, we never dod know what went on in the ‘ladies lounge’

No, about $10 would have done it way back then.
