It’s my Party – I’m 70 years old

After being told that the Prostate Cancer would take me out within a couple of years, I never expected to reach my 70th birthday.   That was over four years ago but here I am, still kicking goals.

The way I feel, I will be here for some time yet – unless the tumours are more aggressive than I believe.  I am certainly not one of those hanging out for their next birthday … and dying soon after.

It was a lovely day to celebrate our birthdays. We had David, Lisa, Richard, Harry, Charlie, Thomas, Anthea, Shane, Darcy and Angus – and a lovely buffet lunch (click to enlarge) or (here for more)

Yesterday, we had a birthday bash to celebrate both Pauline’s birthday (26 May) and mine (4 June).

I guess this will be one of the few times left to get the kids and grandchildren together.  I hope I can make it to Anthea and Shane’s wedding next January.

David wanted a jam session with the guitar but as I wasn’t up to it, here is an “oldie but a goodie” with Lesley Gore from the 60’s when I was running around in a band.

Follow Up: 4 June

After the birthday bash yesterday, today has been a disaster.  I can now understand how frail people with a terminal disease seem to hang on until a special event and then die soon after.  Their recovery powers are shot and they cannot pull through.

It all began last evening when I couldn’t undress myself.  That was followed through with a bad night and the need to use the toilet.  This morning and for most of the day, my breathing was at crisis point and I had to resort to extra morphine and puffer use to get through.  Let us hope I am improved tomorrow.
