What a turn around.  I have compiled my facebook diary for the last week and find that I have gone from a lost cause to being almost over all my pneumonia based problems – particularly my breathing.  The following diary shows the most recent at the top of the page.  What will tomorrow bring? … Greg

  • I got up at 8.00 am this morning … I can’t remember when I did that before! … and I have no breathing or distress symptoms. I might play my guitar

  • Got up at 10am. No breathing problems. No need for oxygen. looks like another good day.

  • Stayed in bed til noon. No breathing problems. Feeling stronger. Back on antibiotics to clear up lungs. Doing fine today.

    Saturday at 3:14pm

  • It’s so confusing! Palliative Care see me as frail and deteriorating. Today, I had a chest X-Ray that showed the lungs have almost cleared up.

I saw the doctor who has put me back on antibiotics to complete the task. If that works, he says I should be about 80% of where I was at before going to hospital in March.

The physiotherapist called and pummelled my back/lungs to dislodge any muck. He also gave me breathing exercises to better open the airways. Personally, I have no idea where I stand except that I am not in a dying posture

    Friday at 7:36pm

  • I have been telling you how well I am doing with the breathing problems. I may have spoken too soon. Yesterday, when the District Nurse visited, she saw it quite differently. She thinks I am becoming more frail by the visit particularly as I have lost about five kilograms in weight since leaving hospital. A week ago, I cut myself shaving and it has not yet healed which indicated my recovery powers are shot. She has advised that I need pro-biotics (yoghurt, Yakult, etc.) to boost my immune system. How much longer can this process continue?

    Friday at 10:29am

  • Another easy start to the day … still coughing some muck up but coping fine.

    May 17 at 1:08pm

  • Another day without extra oxygen, major breathing problems, or pain. Am I there yet?

    May 16 at 5:41pm

  • Had a great start to the day. However, the phlegm is returning 😦
The kids are planning a visit for my birthday – I didn’t think I would still be here!

    May 16 at 11:15am

  • Today is as good as it gets. I did not suffer the normal gasping I get when I get up and expect a good day. I am still coughing but the sticky phlegm is all gone.

    May 15 at 12:48pm

  • Got up at 11.30 when the District Nurse came. She felt I was not looking too good at all. The breathing is very strained and I feel very weak. I now have thrush from the antibiotics that needs treatment.

    • Alison, I do not deny my Christian upbringing. However, contracting Prostate Cancer has given me the opportunity to evaluate my beliefs and spirituality. Take a look at the outcome here
