US GOVT FAIL: Lethal Injections

leave a comment »

It is noteworthy that the US is being thwarted by the global makers of Sodium Thiopental refusing to supply their product for use in lethal injections.

Hospira of Lake Forest, Ill., stopped production of the drug more than a year ago.  The company’s plant in Italy still produces the drug, but Italian authorities refuse to allow Hospira to produce a drug there that could be used for capital punishment. (source)

Some US states found a supply in England, but that source dried up after the British government banned the drug’s export for use in executions. (source)

So, now they are using pentobarbital, commonly used to euthanize pets and promoted (as Nembutal) by Dr Philip Nitschke in assisted suicide.

Even the American supplier, has stated that it opposes pentobarbital’s use in the death penalty. “Lundbeck is dedicated to saving people’s lives,” the company said in a statement. “Clearly, use of [pentobarbital] to carry out the death penalty . . . falls outside its intended use.”

Nothing will end the barbaric US policy of Capital Punishment – least of all the displeasure of international governments.

Still, they can always use a bullet or two … there is no shortage of guns and it would be much cheaper.
