Ford Performance Racing’s Mark Winterbottom has taken pole position for the first race of this weekend’s racing at Winton Motor Raceway.

Winterbottom was only sixth-fastest in qualifying but jumped to the top of the times in the shootout and stayed there, just ahead of Holden Racing Team’s Garth Tander and Team Vodafone’s Craig Lowndes.

Alongside Lowndes on row two will be his team-mate Jamie Whincup, with Fabian Coulthard in fifth position. Completing the top ten runners are Michael Caruso, James Courtney, Lee Holdsworth, Todd Kelly and Steven Richards who was second-fastest in qualifying but dropped to tenth in the shooutout.
