Pulic Transport issues

leave a comment »

For more than a year, I have been working with others trying to improve the public transport services to and from the King Valley.  Currently, we have a bus service between Cheshunt and Wangaratta on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.  That is the only link with the outside world.

Concepts such as commuter access to school buses and developing access for the public to enter and leave the King Valley (they can’t do that at the moment) are the major issues.

Local knowledge of the available services is key to improving the service.  After all, if you have no idea of what exists, it is difficult to even discuss alternatives.  The web is the best source of information and the knowledge base is with Viclink which does a reasonable job of getting you from one place to another.  I found it so useful, I have added a permanent link to the site.

This map shows what you need to know to get from one place to another and exposes some huge gaps in public transport. Just try and figure how to get from Bright to Mansfield – a real horror trip. It takes 9 hours and 35 minutes to get there but it is ten minutes quicker on the return trip
