Two months ago, my neighbour, Kevin Sharp, was in a sorry state. He had just been advised by his Urologist that his PSA was rising and was out of control and that hormone therapy was no longer appropriate. He recommended him to an Oncologist for Chemotherapy.

In the third of this series, I discussed how lactoferrins and bovine cartilage had helped me reach remission with my prostate cancer

I was so saddened by his plight, I talked him into delaying chemotherapy and I gave him my supplies of of these two natural supplements and urged him to give them a go. He took my advice and started taking them. A month later his PSA had risen from 75 to 104. Having discussed this with my mentor, Dianne Street, she pointed out that the instructions on the packet are for healthy people and that someone with cancer needs to take a higher dose. Kevin went from 400mg of Lactoferrin a day to 800mg and finally to 1200mg a day.

One month later and his PSA has dropped to 78. His doctor was totally surprised and told him to keep doing whatever it was that he had been doing (and is now interested in finding out more about this alternate treatment). Kevin is so excited and is looking forward to another test in a months time. This is just as exciting for me as Kevin was on no other treatment and it reinforces my belief that Lactoferrin helped bring about my remission.

If someone you care for has any kind of cancer, refer them to this article and get them to pm me through the comments on any post.

Oz PM angers Muslims with his ‘right to leave’ remark

Canberra (Australia), Dec.2 : Muslim representative bodies across the world, and particularly in Australia, have reacted angrily to Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd’s ‘adjust or leave Australia’ remark, saying the comment was prejudicial to their community and uncalled for.

Rudd had said that Muslims who want to live under Islamic Sharia law should get out of Australia.

Separately, Rudd angered some Australian Muslims on Wednesday by saying he supported spy agencies monitoring the nation’s mosques.

Insisting that Muslims in Australia must adapt, Rudd said: “Take It Or Leave It. I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Bali, we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Australians.”

Rudd added: “This culture has been developed over two centuries of struggles, trials and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom. We speak mainly English, not Spanish, Lebanese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society . Learn the language!’

“Most Australians believe in God. This is not some Christian, right wing, political push, but a fact, because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture,” he said further.

He said: “We will accept your beliefs, and will not question why. All we ask is that you accept ours, and live in harmony and peaceful enjoyment with us.This is our country, our land and our lifestyle, and we will allow you every opportunity to enjoy all this. But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about Our Flag, Our Pledge, Our Christian beliefs, or Our Way of Life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great Australian freedom, ‘THE RIGHT TO LEAVE’.’

If you aren’t happy here, then leave. We didn’t force you to come here. You asked to be here. So, accept the country YOU accepted.’ (AMEN!!!)

Comment: Tony Abbott couldn’t have said it any clearer. Ray has challenged the veracity of this report in the comments below and has branded it as real redneck stuff. What is your opinion? Did Kevin Rudd say it? If not, should he have said it?

If we are to save the planet, we must stop the use of coal fired electricity – and the export of coal to the world’s largeest polluting countries.

Whilst our government allows the sale of coal and CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) to countries such as China and India, Australia is being hypocrytical in expecting those countries importing our energy resources to reduce their carbon emissions or to set meaningful reduction targets for carbon emissions.

They are unlikely to stop these exports because Australia’s economy is dependent upon the export earnings and taxes recovered.

Auatralia is an “Energy Superpower” with its reserves of minerals including coal, uranium and CNG and should be calling the shots. At this time, we refuse to export uranium for nuclear power generation while we cause far more carbon emission by selling coal to these large countries than we could ever emit here in Australia.

There needs to be an about face with the closing down of coal exports and locking them away as a last resort energy source whilst we replace the export revenue by selling uranium for power generation. In this way, we could make a world class reduction in emissions without the need for an ETS or Carbon Taxing.

We know Tony Abbott is a proponent of nuclear energy. It will be interesting to see how he will promote it to reduce Australia’s carbon emissions.

Minister asked to intervene to secure services

Written by steve Kelly.

HEALTH Minister Daniel Andrews has been asked to intervene to ensure doctors clinics in Whitfield and Moyhu don’t close at the end of the year.

The clinics have been operational for 30 years, but defiant locals fear their future beyond this year, when Ovens and King Community Health Service (OKCHS) withdraws its support to the clinics.

Bill Sykes (MLA, Benalla) addressed parliament on Wednesday, informing members that “a shortfall between the GPs’ contribution to the costs and the actual costs” for the clinics to function could no longer be met by OKCHS.

Mr Sykes said locals need to talk to doctors and OKCHS to express the need of the community facility.

And he offered a glimmer of hope, indicating Minister Andrews was one who does take an active stance with community issues such as this.

It’s believed the bottom line is a little over $300 per week, which OKCHS could no longer afford to meet for reasons connected to its company status.

“At this stage OKCHS and the visiting GPs have not been able to reach agreement on meeting these costs,” Mr Sykes said.

Archived 28/11/09 – Chronicle article expires 30/11/09

Her resignation follows senior Liberal Tony Abbott’s decision to resign from the shadow ministry, sparking a new round of leadership speculation.

Comment:

I have never understood how the Liberal and Conservative parties can operate as a single entity. Since losing government, the conservatives have been on the nose and the opposition has been controlled for the last two years by the small l liberals.

Now, the conservatives are making a comeback. Whilst many of theme are tainted by their association with John Howard, we can only hope that – under a generational change in leadership – the conservatives offer a more acceptable alternative than the Liberals have to date. Are the voters ready to accept a conservative option? Let’s wait and see!

Sophie Mirabella: On indulgence: I am compelled to speak on the Higher Education Legislation Amendment (Student Services and Amenities) Bill 2009, because it is a broken promise.
Diagnososis is a wakeup call on your mortality. It’s your life we are talking about. Whether treatment is recommended or not, you owe it to yourself – and your family – to do whatever is required to give yourself the best chance of survival.

We are told a positive mental attitude is essential. However, no matter how positive one might be, it means nothing unless you take positive action in some form. There is no bigger fight than the fight to stay alive.

Because I was pro-active in evaluating my life to this point and questioning my belief system, I was often accused of being negative and morbid. I was simply facing the fact of my mortality. Besides, when you are told you have a disease that is terminal, you are allowed to feel morbid. Looking back, I am glad that I was given the chance to get my head around all these things resulting in my acceptance of the fact that I may die in the forseeable future.

Like any other cancer sufferer, I have been through the full range of emotions through to despair. Just read some of the stuff I have written along the journey.

Remission is not simply a matter of finding an alternate therapy (e.g. lactoferrin). It isn’t that simple. It is necessary to learn as much as you can about the devil within. For example, I learned that cancers are anaerobic (require an oxygen free environment to grow). This led me to regularly drinking pure lemon juice with water to oxygenate the blood. The urinary tract medication Ural is also helpful in this area. Where possible, I chose to eat alkaline foods.

I also learned to plan for the day the hormone therapy no longer works and one is sent off to the Oncologist. I consider chemotherapy and radiation as treatments of last resort as they damage good tissue and organs whilst attacking a tumor. As a result, I have investigated other options and have settled on DCA (Dichloroacetic Acid and Dichloroacetate) as a radical treatment before accepting the oncologists services because DCA offers the promise of destroying all tumors within six weeks.

Another option exists in Chinese medicine. After hearing my story, a neighbor with prostate cancer has turned his life around and become pro-active in the management of his cancer. He visited a local Chinese medicine practitioner who advises that Chinese medicine has an absolute cure for Prostate Cancer – no matter how far advanced. It is reported that the Australian Government has banned the import of the remedy – probably due to drug company lobbying – but that if one is prepared to take the trip to China, they can be cured. Kevin is now embarking on a course of Chinese herbal medicine to get his blood in order, to overcome the perpetual feeling of cold associated with the disease and to overcome his tiredness. These are all by-products of the hormone implant that he is also using. The Chinese methodology is to get the rest of the body operating properly so that he has a chance of beating the cancer.

Western medicine is only concerned with the PSA reading and shrinking the tumor – they offer nothing to strengthen the rest of the body. They could learn a lot from alternate therapies … if only they would open their minds to alternatives.

After telling you how I found alternate therapies, I was annoyed to hear an ABC AM broadcast warning patients against taking supplements whilst undergoing other traditional treatments such as chemotherapy.

Read transcript here – or – listen to the AM segment here. Some quotes are:

“Part of the problem is communication. All too often doctors don’t ask and patients don’t think to tell. Either way, Professor Cohen says it’s an attitude that needs to change. “

MARC COHEN – professor of complementary medicine at RMIT: Patients often don’t want to tell their doctors what they’re taking because they’re afraid the doctors won’t approve and doctors I think are being reticent to ask about them because if they get the information they don’t really know what to do with it.

The head of the Cancer Council of Australia, Professor Ian Olver, says “some treatments can make chemotherapy either ineffective or more toxic.”

This is an unneccessary scare campaign that does nothing to help the patient. Many alternate therapies work – or – can do no harm as is the case with lactoferrins and bovine cartilage. Before embarking on any alternate therapy, you owe it to your doctor and yourself to ask the question, “Will this interfere with my current treatment?”. A “don’t know” response is not acceptable. Your doctor has a responsibility to advise you accurately. Accept nothing less.

Read Just What the Doctor Ordered about how lactoferrins ASSIST chemotherapy

“It sounds like an alternate reality: Ice cream so good for you it’s prescribed by doctors.

According to Food Week Online, researchers at the University of Auckland are working on developing an ice cream that combats the side effects of chemotherapy. They’re working in partnership with Fonterra, New Zealand’s largest dairy.

The ice cream, called ReCharge, employs active ingredients from dairy products to relieve diarrhea, anemia and lack of appetite in people undergoing chemotherapy. Studies already have shown that milk fat and another milk component called lactoferrin can protect the lining of the intestine.

“Earlier trials in the laboratory found that weight loss and damage to the gut lining were significantly reduced by the active ingredients,” said Geoff Krissansen, a University of Auckland professor, told Food Week. ”There were also marked improvements to the immune system and blood markers.”

So if your Doctor or Urologist questions your choice to use lactoferrins because, “it is not in my textbooks”, tell him to Google lactoferrin in the news.

Two ready sources of Lactoferrin capsules are:-

Bio Source “Immune Plus” from Prieceline Chemists

The first link in the chain was Brad Worrell, the reporter with the Albury daily newspaper, The Border Mail. Brad had been following the local Blogs as part of his news gathering and asked if he could write an article about my fight with prostate cancer.

To Brad Worrell, I am eternally gratefull for writing that piece – without it, I would not have found this path to remission.

His article (which can be read here) spawned reactions from various other cancer sufferers – one who offered an aboriginal remedy being Gumbi Gumbi (which I wrote about here). I tracked down the source and found that Gumbi Gumbi comes from the Lilly Pilly Tree and has proven effective on any cancer except bone cancer – which is what I had.

The second – and key – contact came from Sydney suburbs when Dianne Street, a long term blood cancer survivor, with Leukemia and later Lymphoma, was sent a copy of the Border Mail article and felt an affinity with me offering the secret of her longevity. This lady had been through the mill with bone marrow transplants, platelet transplants, chemotherapy and radiation. Yet, she put her survival down to a couple of natural supplements – even her specialists were amazed and told her, “Whatever you are doing, keep doing it!”

Early in her career with cancer, one of her doctors had been exploring the use of lactoferrins and bovine cartilage and began treating her with these supplements.

Lactoferrins are already present in the body fluids (saliva, tears, etc) and come from milk. Mothers’ milk contains about 14% lactoferrins which are the building blocks of the immune system and are also part of cholostrum. The lactoferrins used as a supplement come from the whey of cows milk which contains <1% lactoferrin. They work by binding iron to the blood preventing access to foreign bodies such as bacteria, viruses, tumors and other germs. They form free radicals that attack the foreign body destroying it.

Bovine cartilage is that slime you see on the ball joint of marrow bones. It is the lubricant that keeps the joints mobile. Bovine cartilage is used as an anti-arthritic and as a sports medicine for athletes. In the battle against cancer, the bovine cartilage forms a scum over tumors helping to prevent the tumor from attaching to the blood stream. Together, they appear to be a formidable defence against new tumor development.

My previous writings show that I began taking these supplements in July 2008 and I note (here) that I recorded a positive response just one week after commencing the treatment. I have been on these supplements most of the time ever since and I credit them as contributing towards my remission.

Of course, it goes without saying that Dianne and I have formed a lifelong bond and a mutual support system.

The next time I see my Urologist I will be asking for some statistics on palliative cancers such as mine reaching remission in 18 months. I will let you know the answer come January.

His funding of $45,000 will enable more work on breast cancer which has spread to other sites in the body — such metastasised cancers are still largely an incurable disease .

Dr Krissansen’s research may provide clues to the missing link to a cure, based on a theory that hormonal therapies for breast cancer can be boosted using a protein, lactoferrin, part of the body’s defence system.

Lactoferrin is the alternate cancer treatment together with hormone therapy that has helped me achieve remission from metastasised Prostate Cancer. There will be more information in my new series of articles “Beating Prostrate cancer” in the next few days.

It is time to start listening to Andrew Bolt

Whilst more than 50% of the Australian population question global warming, the Rudd Government is being arrogant in trying to force an ETS scheme upon us. Forcing through this legislation may well prove to be the governments achilles heel.

With the recent revelations of the conspiracy behind the Anthropogenic Global Warming myth (aka AGW; aka ManBearPig) has been suddenly, brutally and quite deliciously exposed after a hacker broke into the computers at the University of East Anglia’s Climate Research Unit (aka Hadley CRU) and released 61 megabites of confidential files onto the internet.

The publication of more than 1,000 private e-mails that climate change skeptics say proves the threat is exaggerated has prompted US Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.) to launch an investigation into whether the U.N.’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) “cooked the science to make this thing look as if the science was settled, when all the time of course we knew it was not.” [continue reading...]

Anthropogenic Global Warming may certainly well have occurred by events such as Saddam Hussein setting fire to every oil well in Kuwait which took some years to extinguish, Atomic testing around the world – in particular in the Pacific, and similar mishaps by world governments and the ‘big business’ that control them.

Firstly, let me make one point very clear: that the introduction…Adjournment: Victorian Bushfires (23 Nov 2009)
We saw 173 people lose their lives to bushfires this year. Two of those people were from my electorate. They were doing what so many residents usually do: staying at home to defend their properties. The February fire was the third fire in six years to ravage some parts of my…

It is very sad and indeed quite shocking that in their lifetime one in three Australian women will experience physical violence and one in five Australian women will experience sexual violence. The consequences of this violence, as we…

I have survived a Stage D Prostate Cancer (Terminal) with a Gleeson Score of 9 (very aggressive) with bone mestastices throughout my skeleton (bone cancer). Upon diagnosis, I was advised that there was no point in operations, chemotherapy or radiation as the cancer was too far gone. I was deemed to be palliative.

So, eighteen months later, why should I be in remission?

Having discounted the options above, I submitted to Hormone Therapy having a three monthly, slow release implant targeting the production of testosterone. These implants produce chemical castration with the loss of libido, withdrawal of the testes and feminisation of the body. They effectively reduce/stop the production of testosterone upon which Prostate Cancer cells feed.

There is another option – castration which is often used.

This treatment typically controls the growth of the cancer for around two and a half years in 85% of patients, when it becomes no longer effective. When that happens, there is only chemotherapy or radiation when the final decline begins.

So what makes me atypical?

In my experience of others with prostate cancer (father, grandfather and father-in-law, etc) there was an eerie silence about their conditions with no thoughts of remission. In my fathers case, cancer was such a boogie that he could not mouth the word – he referred to it as the “Belly Dancer” whilst others referred to “the big C”.

I find a similar attitude amongst my contemporaries. Few of them question their doctors or investigate alternate therapies. They seem to be satisfied with, “My doctor says …”. The problem I find with this is that it is rare for two doctors to have the same opinion about their patient’s prostate cancer. In practice, there are no Prostate Cancer specialists. Your doctor refers you to a Urologist where prostate cancer is only one of the complaints s/he deals with and when they can do no more, you are referred to an Oncologist who only wants to submit you to chemotherapy and/or radiation.

This happened to a neighbour of mine. He asked the Oncologist what chemotherapy would achieve and was told, “I can’t tell you – everyone is different”. Basic Google research (verified by my Urologist) will show that, with prostate cancer, chemotherapy or radiation will not add one extra day to the patients lifespan.

Lack of communication between doctors and patients is undoubtedly the greatest hurdle that cancer patients face. Doctors are frightened to tell you anything unless you ask the specific question. Patients are too inexperienced with cancer to know what questions to ask.

In my case, I believe remission is due to my questioning mind and being open about discussing my situation on this Blog. Confronted head on with my mortality at diagnosis, I avoided denial and went to work on seeking out alternate therapies which I will discuss more with you.

So, a single Mike Rann had an affair with a married woman who is now estranged from her husband. What has that to do with being Premier of SA.

As the good barmaid is being paid so well for revealing the sordid details to Sixty Minutes and a woman’s magazine, I don’t hold a lot of store in the detail – in particular the supposed letters of her ex-husband to the Premier.

And the ex-husband taking a swipe at the Premier after four years … sounds like they might be getting back together to spend <del datetime="2009-11-22T11:08:05+00:00">their</del> her ill gotten gains

What do you think? Will it destroy his career?

Written by STEVE KELLY. (archived from Wangaratta Chronicle 20 Nov 2009)

WHITFIELD and Moyhu residents yesterday vowed to do everything they can to keep a medical clinic in each of their towns.

Around 50 local residents met with Bill Sykes (MLA, Benalla), concerned by Ovens and King Community Health Service’s (OKCHS) announcement that it will withdraw its support of the GP clinics in 2010.

OKCHS has supplied support services to the one-day a week clinics in the form of free reception and nursing staff for 10 years, but at its annual general meeting last week it deemed it could no longer afford to foot the cost.

And although doctors at both clinics are yet to decide on the fate of operation beyond December 31, residents want to get proactive to ensure the services stay.

Cheshunt milk bar owner, Cathy Van Gastelen, will chair a small group which will gather information identifying the impact on communities if the clinics were to close.

And the group will also meet with OKCHS in an attempt to have some questions addressed.

Whitfield resident Barbara Westmacott said many locals were “furious” that OKCHS was ceasing its support, without any community consultation.

“People are cross there are plenty of clinics open in Wangaratta and those in Whitfield and Moyhu might have to go without,” Ms Westmacott said.

“The Whitfield doctor, Chris Lorenze, is very much loved and well respected and it would be sad to see him go.“

Ms Westmacott said the distance to travel if both doctors can’t find a way to bridge the financial gap would be too far and strenuous for many residents who are elderly and need carers.

Comment:

This is an abomination. Ovens and King have progressively withdrawn a full time nurse, a community bus service, a community car for medical support and finally the medical servioce itself. They are putting money before people’s health

I rise this morning to speak on the No. 1 issue in many parts of Australia and certainly the No. 1 issue in my electorate of Indi in north-east Victoria, and that is water. We are suffering the effects of drought and diminishing water supply. Many irrigators in the local area have not received their full water entitlement for some years now. Many local communities have had water trucked in to fill their tanks so they can have water for household use, and towns with larger water supplies are on water restrictions for much of the year.

We have had a disastrous decision by the Victorian government to build a pipeline, commonly called the north-south pipeline, the construction of which has almost been completed. It is to take water from the already strained Murray-Darling Basin in the north and send it south to Melbourne for human consumption. We have seen the federal government complicit in the irresponsible reallocation of water from this stressed part of Victoria to Melbourne. The Rudd government has been careful to pretend to distance itself from stage 1 of the proposal, which was the north-south pipeline, although the environment minister approved stage 1 of the project under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act. The water minister recently issued an ultimatum to the Victorian government threatening to withhold a promised $1 billion of funding if the Victorian parliament does not pass a bill relating to the north-south pipeline, which is blatant blackmail of state MPs in Victoria who are representing the concerns of country Victorians.

The savings generated from this upgrade of irrigation channels in stage 2 are supposed to be shared between environmental flows and local irrigators. Stage 1 works were to generate water savings to service the pipeline to Melbourne. It is inexplicable for the water minister to now be making stage 2 funding conditional on the actions of non-Labor MPs who happen to be opposed to water being piped to Melbourne. There is local concern about this, and obviously both state and federal governments do not really care because it does not seem to affect them electorally, irrespective of their responsibility to govern for all Victorians and all Australians.

We have the disastrous policy by the Victorian state government to have no more dams. They want to increase Australia’s population but they have absolutely no idea and no plan for one of the basic, vital needs of a growing population—that is, water. So they come up with all this rhetoric but have no plans. We have seen the desalination plant—another disastrous proposal for the environment and for future taxpayers. We have seen the financing arrangements through the PPP, which will be poor value for taxpayers. And the list goes on. Unfortunately, Labor is a disaster for water and for country communities. (Time expired)

Comment:
I think most country people will be behind Sophie on this one. Whilst Melbourne needs the drinking water, it is now two generations that governments have neglected the water infrastructure. Two generations ago, Australia’s population was about half what it is today. Yet no new reservoirs or alternate sources of water have been developed to meet the ever growing population of Australia. Taking it from the country’s food bowl reduces the capacity of the nation to feed itself. I guess, if they freeze the people out of the food bowl area, they will have enough water to supply the eastern states capital cities. That is probably why the government has been intent on transferring the food bowl to the north of Australia.

I rise today to comment on the government’s proposed moves towards a bill of rights. As a member of the Liberal Party, a party founded as the champion of individual rights and liberties against the state—and we have seen since the formation of the Liberal Party a growing state interfering with people’s rights—it is of great concern. I have received several petitions, which are not in the official form accepted by the parliament, from locals concerned about a proposed bill of rights. We have seen what has happened in Victoria, where there is a similar bill of rights regime. We have seen it being abused by criminals and rarely used for the greater good. But of great concern is why the government has not explained why a bill of rights is necessary. What deficiencies are there in existing laws? We have seen countries that can only be described as totalitarian regimes with bills of rights, but they in fact do not guarantee people’s rights. We do not want to see a shift of power from elected representatives, who are responsible to the people, to unelected judges. The community is already angry at the judgments being given out to very serious criminals that do not reflect community standards, and there will be a shift of power to judges with a bill of rights. We have seen that, when the Left is in power and they introduce a bill of rights or similar legislation, there is in fact a limiting of liberty, not an extension of it.

Comment:

Sophie is against transferring power from the elected representatives to the judges and asks, “What deficiencies are there in existing laws?”

What about the abuses of the “Forgotten Generation” to whom we apologised yesterday and the mistreatment of aboriginees, for which we also apologised, and which occurred under the control of elected representatives – both Liberal and Labor. I submit a Bill of Rights administered by Judges could not be any worse.
