Rural Victoria under stress

with one comment

According to Ray Dixon of Alpine Opinnion, a bun fight has started in Bright over preventing Ray’s accommodation business from partiicipati in a tourism promotion.  In browsing the Country News Feeds on the Country Victorian News website one finds disharmony stretching from the border to the coast.  Bright and the Alpine Shire are not alone in this small town thinking.

Bendigo seems to be seething with unrest with Traders aiming for courts where the HARGREAVES Mall traders will make legal history if they are successful in winning compensation from the City of Greater Bendigo council over delays caused by the municipality damaging and destroying businesses.

To complicate matters, THE Bendigo Traders Association Board member Graeme Baker has been forced to resign from his position after a unanimous vote last night.

Mr Baker was asked to resign from his position after he publicly spoke out against fellow BTA board member Martin Ruffell on radio last week.  This sounds a little familiar with Ray’s situation where individuals are being persecuted for expressing an opinion. (BTW, Ray has not been publicly canning individuals as Mr Baker had).

Mr Baker said he was disappointed with the outcome of last night’s meeting and said he questioned the future direction of the BTA.  “I am very disappointed because I have done my very best to represent the traders and businesses in the whole of the CBD,” Mr Baker said.

“The board is now down to eight members and their ability to represent over 500 businesses in town is questionable.”  As a result, TWO founding board members of the Bendigo Traders Association have left  as well.
