Still time to apply for subsidised Solar Power
Wangaratta’a 2030 Vision includes making Wangaratta the Victorian leaders in Solar Energy, particularly for public transport. Whilst this move is unrelated, it does bring the topic of Solar Energy sharply int focus putting them ahead of the game.
Written by STEVEN BURKE.- Source: Wangaratta ChronicleSOLAR power proved a hot topic in Wangaratta on Friday, with more than 150 people attending information sessions run by Solar Shop Australia. Residents learnt how to best capitalise on the $8000 rebate for installing solar panels.
Launched this month across nine rural Victorian municipalities, the program will enable residents to install a 1kW solar photovoltaic (PV) system at the substantially reduced cost of approximately $2000.
The program is being facilitated by the Northeast Greenhouse Alliance (NGA), working in partnership with the Rural City of Wangaratta.
Council’s environment manager, Bronwyn Chapman, said she was amazed by the number of people who attended the meeting. “It goes to show how interested people are in finding alternatives to coal power for their houses,” she said. “People understand power is only going to get more expensive.
One resident interested in harnessing the sun’s power was Maurice Byrne, who said he would consider installing the panels. “This is the first time where they are not wanting a whole lot of money up front. The benefits of solar power are certainly becoming more attractive.”
Anyone wishing to arrange a home inspection can contact Solar Shop Australia on 133 SOLAR or for more information visit www.solarshop.com.au where you can make an online application.
At a time when housing prices are fluctuating due to the worldwide recession, this would add more than the installation cost to property values
